EXPEDITION ELBRUS 2008

The goal of Expedition Elbrus 2008 is to raise $250,000 in support of THE LAST WELL, a movement to provide clean water to an entire nation in the name of Jesus. The team will attempt to summit Mt. Elbrus, the highest mountain on the continent of Europe in order to raise awareness and support for the LAST WELL MOVEMENT. As the launch event for THE LAST WELL MOVEMENT, each team member of Expedition Elbrus 2008 is committed to being a fundraiser first, a climber second. Through the efforts of the team, Christ’s name will be glorified around the world as his followers provide clean water to an entire nation and preach the Gospel to the communities that are served by these wells. Each member of the Expedition Elbrus 2008 team is:
  1. A follower of Christ
  2. Passionate about the mission of THE LAST WELL MOVEMENT
  3. Required to personally cover the costs associated with the expedition
  4. Raise a minimum of $5000 for The Last Well Movement
  5. Maintain conduct that reflects Christian values and practice

MEET THE CLIMBERS

Todd Phillips

Todd Phillips is the teaching pastor of Frontline , a generational ‘church-within-a-church’ at McLean Bible Church near Washington D.C. with over three thousand young adults attending weekly at six campuses. Frontline has been called “the first mega-church within a mega-church in America.” His two passions are sharing the relevant message of Christ with “pre-Christians” and encouraging and empowering young Christ-followers to give all of their lives and lifestyles to God. He is the author of Spiritual CPR: Reviving a Flat-lined Generation and his new book, Get Uncomfortable: Serve the Poor. Stop Injustice. Change the World…In Jesus’ Name. Todd completed a Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2000 with honors, and is completing his doctoral work at Dallas Theological Seminary. A transplanted Texan, Todd, his wife Julie, and their three children live in Sterling, Virginia.

Zach Casper

Zach Casper, 29, is a Christian, Computer Engineer and Adventure Seeker. Casper grew up in the Nazarene church while living with his family in Southern California. He is the oldest of three (3) boys. Mr. Casper attended the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio earning a degree in Computer Engineering and just recently completed a master’s degree in Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University. He currently attends McLean Bible church and serves in several ministries and leadership teams including short-term missions trips. Zach’s most recent trip was to Ecuador where he was part of a team supporting Compassion International and Bridge Builders at two (2) work sites in the coastal portion of Ecuador.

Andrew Good

Andrew Good is a Christ-follower who loves people, adventure and travel; watches History and National Geographic channels to foster his curiosity about space, nature, politics, and history; and has a zeal for playing and watching soccer. Currently 28, he grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado with two younger sisters, then spent a year living in fellowship at the Sanctuary International in Vail. An alumnus of American University, Good now works on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant. He attends Frontline at McLean Bible Church and has joined missions teams sent to Mexico and India. Andrew is an ardent fan of grace, optimism, community, and trying to convert an excess of energy into a bit of charisma.

Thomas D. Heffernan

Thomas D. Heffernan, age 39, a serial entrepreneur, having co-founded two multi-million dollar businesses, Mr. Heffernan currently serves on the board of two of his companies but also provides CFO and other consulting services to turn-around and start-up companies. Mr. Heffernan is currently single and has no children. Mr. Heffernan remains active in his church having participated in short-term missions, including a trip to India to work with orphanages and leper colonies. He also focuses on personal fitness, having competed in a Half Iron Man triathlon as well as a marathon in recent years. Heffernan is an adventure enthusiast and an avid climber, having climbed Grand Teton in Wyoming and El Capitan in Yosemite, California, among many others. Mr. Heffernan is also licensed through PADI to train and certify recreational scuba divers, rescue divers, dive masters, and scuba instructors.

Nate Keeler

Nathan is a 26 year old husband and father residing in Sterling, VA. He is always seeking a oppurtunity where adventure and GOD's calling intersect in his life. Nathan is the director of small group ministry at Frontline and works hands on to recruit and equip men to lead small groups and to coach other Small Group Leaders. Nate’s passion is to see men enter into authentic relationships with other men in order to become more Christ-like.

Chad Madden

Chad Madden grew up in Houston, TX, studied film at sports powerhouse Baylor University, and in 2000 went to work for Bluefish TV. In addition to making short films for use in churches and small groups, he has filmed several mission trips in places such as Rwanda and the Dominican Republic. Not the most avid of outdoorsman, he gets most of his exercise on the basketball court. He lives in Dallas, TX, with his wife, Jana, and their two boys, Carter and Hudson.

Highlights from Chad:
  • He has climbed El Capitan using only his tongue…twice.
  • In high school he overthrew a third-world dictator with a single phone call.
  • He once performed successful open heart surgery on himself because he didn’t trust anyone else to do it.
  • Although not a name dropper, he has had the opportunity to work with Donald Miller, Switchfoot, Jars of Clay, Gracia Burnham, Michael Redd, and a living legend, the GREAT Todd Phillips.

Rob Newton

Rob Newton, 34, is a Christ-follower who seeks to find everlasting fulfillment in God. He is a laid-back thinker who understands that he is a fallen vessel that has been forgiven by an amazing sovereign grace. Newton grew up in Westminster, MD as the middle-child of three (3) boys. He attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Newton enrolled in seminary for a year and then transferred to business school. He earned an MBA from Old Dominion University. He has traveled to 25 countries and been a part of 11 Christian missionary teams. He worked as an engineer for a US Navy shipbuilding program before transitioning to his current job as a finance director for a family business. He attends Frontline at McLean Bible Church and is actively involved with Global Impact, the church’s missions ministry. He enjoys being a husband to his wife, Jessel, and a daddy to his two children, Alana (3), and Joey (1). Newton also enjoys things like: traveling; going to college football games; and going camping and hiking.

Jordan Olivero

Jordan Olivero lives passionately with an enthusiasm to know God and make Him known. Having seen and served the needs of people who desperately need clean water in Africa, Jordan, returned from a three-week journey with Living Water International, determined to motivate people to help end the water crisis. Jordan leads a men’s small group and enjoys skiing, tennis, and running. He has traveled to 26 countries, finished two triathlons, climbed many Colorado fourteeners, and starred in two outdoor adventure films. A young entrepreneur from Detroit and a graduate from Colorado Christian University, Jordan is 25-years-old and works as an IBM Business Strategy Consultant at the Pentagon. He is also the Business Development Lead for IBM’s World Development Initiative.

Andrew Pitts

Andrew Pitts is a year 2000 graduate of the University of Richmond and presently works as a Market Risk Officer for the World Bank Group. He regularly attends Frontline at McLean Bible Church where he leads a men’s small group. His recent adventures include a mission trip to Thailand, running in the Vermont City Marathon, and summiting Mt. Humphrey in Arizona.

Jim Printz

Jim Printz, 36 is born/raised in Luray, Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. He is a passionate Christ-follower with a thirst for prayer, international missions, evangelism and community building. He’s taken several missions trips in North, South and Central America and Asia. Currently he is blessed beyond belief to be project manager for the Daybreak Ministry Community Center expansion project located in Washington, D.C. Jim is a market-place Christian, involved as a business partner in North Shore Design custom building and remodeling company. He is an avid hiker/mountaineer having taken trips to Argentina, Chile, British Columbia and many other majestic destinations. He also enjoys making people laugh, exploring and learning of God’s creation, road biking, basketball and marshal arts.

Ryan Wheaton

Ryan Wheaton currently works as a Communications Watch Officer for the Department of Homeland Security. Ryan is a follower of Christ, loving husband and passionate about health & fitness. He was baptized and raised in a Christian family, but did not fully come to Christ until Easter of 2005, and is just now beginning to understand the impact of God’s amazing grace. Ryan’s joy is in helping others and sharing Biblical truth.
